The Republican candidate Donald Trump has finally been granted some relief ahead of the highly anticipated presidential debate between the former commander-in-chief and US President Joe Biden.
Justice Juan Merchan has partially lifted the gag order on the former president in his hush money case, allowing him to make public comments about witnesses related to the case and pass general comments about the jurors, BBC reported.
However, Trump, 78, is still restricted from speaking publicly about courtroom staff, prosecutors, and their families.
Trump has frequently violated the orders of the court and has been fined thousands and threatened with jail time.
Merchan first imposed a gag order on Trump in late March but extended it after Trump attacked his daughter on social media.
Furthermore, Trump several times attacked key witness Michael Cohen and adult star Stormy Daniels online, insulting them.
The billionaire ex-president was found guilty in his hush money trial case in May after he was convicted of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments made to Daniels before the 2016 US elections.
President Joe Biden and the Republican candidate are scheduled to face each other in their first presidential debate for the 2024 US general election on Thursday night in Atlanta.
