Taylor Swift has made her first major purchase since gaining control over her master recordings, channelling an iconic cinematic character.

The two-part documentary, Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood, premiered on Friday, with the first episode presenting Taylor's perspective on the feud and the second episode showcasing Scooter's side of the story.

The documentary traces the Lover crooner's journey from her early days as a teenager signed to Big Machine in the early 2000s, where she relinquished ownership of her masters as part of a standard six-album deal.

Journalist and novelist Zing Tsjeng discussed in the second episode what Taylor did with her first payment after signing with Big Machine.

"Famously she used her first paycheck to buy a Lexus convertible as a kind of snub to the popular girls," she explained.

And Swift reportedly had a reason to buy the expensive car.

"She’s talked about this as being a real kind of F.U. moment in her career where she kind of says, 'You know, you girls were busy not inviting me to things, going to parties while I’ve just used my first paycheck to buy the car that Regina George drives in Mean Girls,'" Zing said.

In the movie and popular culture, Rachel McAdams' character Regina George is seen as the epitome of a "mean girl." Zing used this incident to show how Taylor remembers the things people do to her, such as Scooter purchasing her master's degree.

"It kind of really shows you what she was about from a very young age. She’s really hardworking, she’s super talented, but she likes to kind of keep score. She’s not above holding a grudge and she likes to get one over other people," Zing said.

Taylor stated the series that read: "Taylor has completely moved on from this saga and has turned what started out as an extreme situation into one of the most fulfilling creative endeavours of her life. None of these men will ever be able to take away from Taylor’s legacy as a songwriter, singer, director, philanthropist, and advocate for artists’ rights."
