Emma Stone clarifies what name she likes to be called
Emma Stone responds to a question about her name in a new interview
Emma Stone has recently shared she’s fine with both her real and reel name.
Speaking on TODAY on June 20, the Easy A actress responded to a question about her name, which she disclosed in May that she “goes by Emily,” rather than “Emma off-camera”.
The show’s host Craig Melvin asked, “Are we still going by Emma, or Emily? There's been some confusion over your name.”
“I'm fine either way," replied Emma.
The La La Land actress stated. “I really am. My real name is Emily, though.”
The host of the show questioned the actress, “Why have you been allowing us to call you Emma for all these years?”
“It was taken at Screen Actors Guild,” she said.
Emma mentioned, “It's sort of like when you register a business and you can't have the same name as someone else.”
“I've been saying Emily my whole life ... you can call me whatever you want. You can make up a name!” noted the actress.
Earlier at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Emma, who is currently busy promoting Kinds of Kindness, was referred to her by her birth name at the time.
In April, the Poor Things star told The Hollywood Reporter that she changed her real name professionally to Emma at the beginning of her acting career because another actress was already going by Emily Stone.
While answering about calling out by her real name, "When I get to know them, people that I work with do.”
“It’s just because my name was taken [by another actress in SAG]. Then I freaked out a couple of years ago,” she continued.
Emma added, “For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.”
Meanwhile, Kinds of Kindness is slated to release in theatres on June 21.
