Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan shed light on the rebellious nature of their characters, Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, in the acclaimed third season of Bridgerton.
In an interview with The Wrap, the stars discussed the rule-breaking nature of their characters and how these actions play a significant role in their evolving romance.
One of the moments they highlighted was their characters' steamy scene, which breaks societal norms in the fifth episode.
In addition, Colin and Penelope sleep together for the first time, defying the tradition of waiting until after marriage.
"They’re constantly breaking rules. They’re sneaky, they seem like little sweeties … but they’re always breaking rules," Coughlan, 37, emphasized the duo's penchant for rule-breaking.
Newton, 31, echoed the same sentiments, noting that his character, "is a big rule breaker."
Coughlan also pointed out the allure of their forbidden romance, explaining, "Something about that era as well — the danger of it — makes it quite sexy — being forbidden. But I think, at that moment, they’re so in love that everything else..."
She concluded by describing how their love transcends all other concerns, "Everything washes away. The world doesn’t matter in that moment."
Since the premiere of the second part of third season of the hit Netflix series on June 13, fans have been enthralled by the romantic development of Polin.
