Donald Trump says media scrutiny affecting son Barron
"I think he doesn’t say it because he doesn’t want to hurt me," says former US president
Former United States president Donald Trump said his hush-money trial and the media scrutiny are affecting his 18-year-old son, Yahoo reported.
In an interview with Dr Phil McGraw, the former president said: "I think he doesn’t say it because he doesn’t want to hurt me and thinks it's possibly a hurtful conversation, but it has to affect my family."
The Republican candidate stressed that Barron is deeply "hurt" by the jury's verdict.
Earlier in an interview with Fox, talking about his family, Trump said: "I think in many ways it's tougher on my family than it is on me."
Upon being questioned about his wife's reaction to the trial and conviction, Trump replied, "She is fine, but I think it's really hard for her. She has to read all this crap."
Trump, who is the Republican presidential nominee, stated before the election that he feels his family wants him to take on the challenge.
The ex-president said that he believes his family wants him to fight the battle.
"Our country’s in trouble. We could be in a world war very soon. My family loves this country, and I think they feel I do a good job," said Trump.
A New York jury last week convicted Trump of fabricating financial documents in order to hide the hush-money payments he made to adult star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.
