Scotland secured a five-wicket victory over Namibia in their 12th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval Cricket Stadium in Barbados on Thursday.
Skipper Richie Berrington and Michael Leask's crucial innings led to the win in the 19th over.
Early in their innings, Scotland faced trouble in getting runs. It was fourth over when they lost their first wicket when Tangeni Lungameni claimed the wicket of George Munsey (7).
Munsey's partner Michael Jones had just started showing his batting skill when he was dismissed by off-spinner Erasmus. He scored 26 runs off 20 deliveries with the help of 3 fours and a six.
Later, Brandon McMullen was stumped by wicketkeeper Green off Erasmus after he hit just 19 runs. Matthew Cross could just grab 1 run as his innings was cut short with an LBW from Bernard Scholtz.
The game took a turn when Scottish skipper Berrington and Leask partnered for the fifth wicket. The duo snatched the game from hands of Namibia. Their 72-run partnership sealed the deal as they clinched their first-ever win in the shortest format of the game.
Leask's innings included four sixes in his 17-ball 35. He returned to pavilion in the 18th over. Berrington hit 47 runs off 35 balls and remained unbeaten. He completed the target for his side with a six off David Wiese.
Playing first, Namibia could score 155 runs in 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets as their batters were overpowered by the bowling of Scotland. Gerhard Erasmus played a captain innings as he hit 52 runs off 31 balls.
Earlier, Namibia elected to bat first after winning the toss. This was the fourth Group B match of the tournament.
Namibia bagged a win in their first game against Oman while Scotland's game against England was abandoned due to the rain.
