Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes earned this massive amount, thanks to new popularity
Kansas City Chiefs star players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce receive massive NFLPA bonuses
With Taylor Swift in the stands and the team winning a second consecutive Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs were the talk of the 2023 National Football League (NFL) season.
The Chiefs' two top players, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, saw a boost in their bank accounts as a result of the excitement and victory, Sportico reported.
According to the NFL Players Association's (NFLPA) annual report, which was submitted this week to the US Department of Labour, Mahomes received $3.6 million in group licensing and marketing income in the 12 months ending in February.
The total was higher by 53% compared to last year.
Apart from receiving royalties from the NFLPA, Mahomes also makes over $20 million a year from endorsement deals with brands like Adidas, Coors Light, State Farm, and Subway.
Meanwhile, Kelce, Swift's boyfriend, saw a 177% increase in his licensing income to $2.4 million, placing him fourth among the highest-paid NFL players.
These come from all group licensing agreements, including multi-player contracts negotiated by the NFLPA, for products like trading cards, video games, and jerseys. Based on the sales of products like jerseys, players receive royalties.
Nearly every NFL player had a minimum payout of $32,000 from the PA.
