Kiran Rao opened up about her initial encounter with Aamir Khan during the making of Lagaan.
In a recent podcast conversation with Cyrus Broacha, the 50-year-old filmmaker offered insights into how her romantic relationship with Aamir began.
Recalling the moment, the filmmaker shared how she received a call from Reema Kagti, inviting her to join the project.
Reflecting on the significant gamble Aamir was undertaking with the film, she described it as a sports drama set a century ago in Awadhi.
"When I was in charge of getting all of them into layers and layers of their outfits, it was quite an experience. It was like a film school for me."
Kiran revealed that she reconnected with the Secret Superstar actor while she was involved in the production of Swades and he was filming Mangal Pandey.
She shared, "That’s when we started dating," while noting that following the conclusion of Swades, Aamir embarked on Rang De Basanti.
Kiran also recalled a moment and mentioned accompanying Aamir during his two to three-month filming journey for Rang De Basanti.
For the unversed, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao tied the knot on December 28, 2005, and announced their separation in 2021, ending 16 years of marriage.
On the work front, Kiran is basking the success of her newly directed film, Laapataa Ladies, released on March 1, 2024.
