American Idol crowned Abi Carter as season 22 winner after a three-hour finale that kept everyone on the edge.
During the final episode of season 22 aired on Sunday, May 19, Carter was announced as the winner following a spectacular rendition of her original song This Isn’t Over.
In addition, she also aced one of her finale performances with What Was I Made For by Billie Eilish.
Among the three finalists shortlisted previously, Carter, who is from Indio, California, outshined Will Moseley and Jack Blocker, who claimed the second and third positions, respectively.
She first impressed the judges during her audition, where the singer opted for Eilish’s Oscar-winning tune from the Barbie film.
Her stunning audition garnered rave from the judge's panel, starting from Lionel Richie.
"We don't have to vote," he said, sure that her vocal magic had mesmerised his fellow judges as well.
Katy Perry complemented, "Thank you for being an example of singing from your heart."
"What were you made for?" the Queen of Pop exclaimed, "You were made for this. 100%."
Meanwhile, Luke Bryan suggested, "That may be the winner of American Idol."
"I've never heard the crew clap," he noted.
