Prince Laurent of Belgium has frequently drawn similarities to Prince Harry for his rebellious nature and vocal dislike for royal life.
In a new interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, the 63-year-old prince laid bare plans to step back from royal life in a bid to lead a more independent one.
The former playboy prince said: “I am preparing a new life. I would like to change my current position. I want to be less involved in public activities. It is no secret that one day I want to live abroad, in Italy.”
“I don’t compare myself to Prince Harry. I have always been an entrepreneur. But it is true that I would like to start a new life,” Laurent added.
He has been involved in several controversies over the years for his extravagant spendings and alleged entrepreneurial work across the globe.
Regardless, the second son and youngest child of King Albert and Queen Paola defended his decision to quit royal life in prospective future with a hope for a better life.
“I am convinced that I will be able to develop better in that new life than in the life I am experiencing now,” he told the outlet.
“I think I can do more for society and make myself more useful if I can live that new life. I’m not proclaiming this because I’m angry,” added Prince Laurent.
