Cristiano Ronaldo has been connected to an unexpected move to a Champions League team this summer.

It seemed as though Ronaldo's European career had come to an end when he left Manchester United by mutual consent in November 2021 and made a ground-breaking move to the Saudi Pro League.

With a hat-trick in his most recent game for Al Nassr against Al Wehda, Ronaldo has scored 47 goals this season in 46 games across all competitions. The 39-year-old has been as prolific as ever in Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, rumours state that Europe's best team has taken notice of the Portuguese's unwavering persistence in front of goal.

Journalist Alhazza Mutab claims that Bayer Leverkusen is interested in Ronaldo.

Indeed, it is said that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is also interested in signing with the recently crowned Bundesliga winners this summer.

The team is amazingly still on track to have an undefeated season across all competitions.

Xabi Alonso, the manager of Leverkusen and an attacker while both were at Real Madrid, is said to have recommended Cristiano Ronaldo.

Given that Ronaldo has extolled the virtues of the Saudi Pro League since moving there, it is unclear if he would be amenable to returning to Europe.

When questioned in January about the status of Saudi Arabia's top tier, Ronaldo said: "To be honest I think the Saudi League is not worse than French league, in my opinion."

"In [the] French league I think you have two, three teams with a good level. In Saudi now I think it's more competitive. They can say whatever they want, it's just my opinion and I played there one year so I know what I'm talking about,” he added.
