Three passengers in Minnesota narrowly escaped a dangerous situation on Wednesday.
It was a close call when the hot-air balloon they were riding crashed into a power line, sparking a fire. Everyone involved escaped with minor injuries.
The incident happened around 6:50pm when the balloon was trying to land in a field near Rochester. A strong gust of wind blew it off course. The balloon hit a power line on Highway 63, causing sparks and a fire. The basket broke free from the balloon and fell about 20-30 feet to the ground.
Video footage captured the balloon descending slowly near the highway before hitting the power line, causing sparks. The basket fell to the ground while the balloon shot upwards.
Two of the three people in the basket reported minor injuries. A small fire started near the basket, but firefighters quickly put it out. The balloon was found a couple of miles away from the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the accident to find out what happened. This comes just a few months after a hot air balloon crash in Arizona that tragically resulted in several deaths.
Rochester Fire Capt. Chad Kuhlman mentioned the passengers' luck in surviving the ordeal. He described how the basket got caught on the power lines before dropping to the ground. This incident comes after a tragic hot-air balloon crash in the Arizona desert earlier this year, where four people lost their lives.
