Apple and Google are in talks to integrate Gemini artificial intelligence into the iPhone, people familiar with the situation told Bloomberg News, in what could be a major update on the tech side.
So what do the talks include? Well, Reuters reported that the companies are negotiations about using Gemini to power some fresh features being added to the iPhone’s software in the ongoing year.
However, the talks do not seem to be in a decisive phase as the the branding terms and the AI implementation have not been finalised as of yet.
Reuters reported that if the two tech giants strike a deal, Google could tap the market of two billion Apple users, as it competes with OpenAI.
"This strategic partnership is a missing piece in the Apple AI strategy and combines forces with Google for Gemini to power some of the AI features Apple is bringing to market," Daniel Ives, an analyst at Wedbush, told Reuters.
In January, Google had teamed up with Samsung, Apple’s rival, to integrate its genAI tech in the company’s Galaxy S24 series of smartphones.
Both companies — Apple and Google — have an years-long partnership as Google is Safari browser’s default search engine .
