John Cena reflects on his comical role in Ricky Stanicky
John Cena shares views on doing funny characters in previous movies
John Cena has recently reflected on his new character in the new comedy, Ricky Stanicky.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Cena revealed that he played a role of a struggling celebrity impersonator, who demanded him to take “some bold chances”.
The wrestler-turned-actor talked about the director, explaining he’s “really good about getting your best out of you, forcing you into uncomfortable situations and getting you to go all in”.
“Sometimes, confidence and foolish courage is all you need, you know?” remarked the 46-year-old.
Cena explained, “I come from a world where guys go out in their underwear, throw oil all over themselves and talk trash to each other. That in itself is ridiculous.”
“But because we commit and we are authentically representing the characters we try to build, it brings you to the edge of your seat,” said the actor.
While discussing his funny side in previous movies, Cena pointed out that your “heart has to be in it”.
“You have to do those embarrassing moments on screen where you're asked to give of yourself and be vulnerable, whether it's dressed as a merman, whether it's in your tighty whities or in a Britney Spears outfit, you've got to wholeheartedly commit,” he shared.
Cena added, “I genuinely love it, and I try to be better than I was yesterday. That's how I approached wrestling, and that yield really showed.”
