Brit Turner, founding drummer of the band Blackberry Smoke, died at the age of 57 after battling brain cancer on Sunday, March 3.
The rock band took to social media to break the big news, noting: "It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform everyone that our brother Brit Turner has moved on from this life.”
Reminiscing on Turner’s exceptional qualities, they added: “If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know he was the most caring, empathetic, driven and endearing person one could ever hope to meet. Brit was Blackberry Smoke’s True North, the compass that instituted the ideology that will continue to guide this band.”
Further commenting on the late drummer’s condition, they explained: "Brit has battled glioblastoma [an aggressive form a brain cancer] since his diagnosis in the fall of 2022 and fought every day.”
They expressed gratitude for everyone who supported the deceased drummer’s family in these crucial times.
Previously, Turner was hospitalised in August 2022 after suffering a heart attack. He recovered quickly, making his way to the stage again.
The 57-year-old drummer was diagnosed with glioblastoma later the same year. He underwent a surgery that involved removing a tumour from his skull.
While he was away given his medical condition, his spot was taken by Atalanta sticksman Kent Aberle.
