Wendell Pierce, known for his role as Robert Zane in Suits, who is also the on-screen father of Meghan Markle, has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman.
Pierce will be taking on the role of the iconic editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet.
The forthcoming movie, which began shooting in Atlanta on Thursday, is a part of the DC universe revamp which is being helmed by Gunn and Peter Safran.
The movie stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as classic villain Lex Luthor.
Pierce’s character, Perry White is a tough-as-nails boss for Clark and Lois. The character has been played on the big screen by Jackie Cooper (in the Christopher Reeves movies), Frank Langella (in Bryan Singer’s take) and Laurence Fishburne (in the Snyderverse movies of the 2010s).
The feature marks the first solo Superman project in more than a decade following Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which starred Henry Cavill.
The new movie, which is now titled Superman, will be released on July 11, 2025.
