A teenage, on his way home from a Nets game, boy was brutally shot and killed in what appears to be a targeted attack by a rival gang, according to police sources.
The 13-year-old boy, Troy Gill, a member of the Trench Crew, fell victim to the violence at the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and St. Marks Avenue in Crown Heights around 10pm on Thursday.
The police reveal that video evidence points towards the involvement of a rival gang in this tragic incident.
"He was definitely targeted," stated a police source, emphasising the premeditated nature of the attack. Gill, having just returned from the Barclays Center in an Uber, was alone when he was ambushed. In a desperate call to his mother, he relayed the horrifying situation before collapsing just blocks away.
Despite swift medical attention, Gill succumbed to his injuries at Kings County Hospital.
The assailants, members of the rival gang, fired four bullets at the young victim, hitting him in the chest and arm. The motives behind this targeted act remain under investigation, leaving the community in grief and disbelief.
Residents near the crime scene, like Naya Edmonds, were shaken by the incident. Edmonds, who heard the exchange of gunfire while ordering food, expressed her shock, questioning, "It’s not a grown man, it’s not a group of people. It’s just one kid."
Nadia Lopez, an advocate for formerly incarcerated women residing in the same building, highlighted the persistent issues of gang activity in the area. Recalling her own experience of being robbed in the vicinity as a child, Lopez commented on the neighborhood's challenges, stating, "It’s so sad."
