Lady Gabriella Windsor’s husband Thomas Kingston died from a “traumatic head wound”.
According to an inquest opening at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court, a gun was near to his body in an outbuilding at his parent’s home in the Cotswolds.
Buckingham Palace announced Thomas’ death on Tuesday, two days after the original passing of the royal.
According to a statement from senior coroner Katy Skerrett, Kingston shot himself in the head with a gun.
She explained that the former hostage negotiator had lunch with his parents before his father left the house with the dogs for a walk.
By the time he returned, Kingston was found dead “with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene.”
Tributes poured in for Thomas following the news of his death.
Lady Gabriella honoured him as an “exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him”.
His death was described as a “great shock to the whole family”.
Buckingham Palace also released a statement on behalf of King Charles and Queen Camilla as they sent their “most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to the Kingston family.”
Mr Kingston tied the knot with Lady Gabriella, who is the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2019.
