Prince Harry vows to fight court ruling on security
Prince Harry refuses to back down, appeals security decision
Prince Harry announced his intention to appeal a UK court ruling on Wednesday, following the judgment that the government lawfully downgraded his personal security level for visits to Britain.
The legal action was initiated after the British authorities informed him in February 2020 of the reduction in publicly-funded protection during his stays in the UK.
The Duke of Sussex, youngest son of King Charles III, made the decision to relocate to North America in 2020 alongside his wife Meghan Markle, eventually settling in California, USA, thus stepping away from his role as a working royal.
High Court judge Peter Lane, in a 52-page judgment, upheld the legality of the 'bespoke process' implemented by a committee under the interior ministry's jurisdiction, stating it to be sound within the legal framework.
A legal representative for Prince Harry has confirmed his intention to pursue an appeal to the Court of Appeal in a bid to seek justice.
The Court of Appeal, England's second highest court, will assess whether grounds exist to hear the case.
Harry's spokesperson emphasized that the Duke is not seeking preferential treatment but rather a fair and lawful application of the rules, ensuring equitable consideration compared to others.
Meanwhile, the interior ministry expressed satisfaction with the judgment and stated that it is carefully deliberating its next actions.
