Shooting at Waffle House kills one, injures 5

At least a woman was shot dead and five others were injured during a deadly shooting at a Waffle House restaurant in Indianapolis Monday, according to the local police, days after a gun violence incident at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade that killed one in Kansas City, Missouri.

A statement issued by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said: "Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the restaurant on Lynhurst Drive around 12:30am."

A woman was also transported to the hospital along with five others in critical condition but later was pronounced dead.

Among the injured were a woman and three males who are now reported to be in stable condition.

According to the police, the sixth wounded went to hospital separately sustaining gunshot injuries and was regarded as critically injured.

Officials are considering the shooting at the Waffle House as a result of a brawl between two groups. It is yet to be determined whether the victims of the shooting were involved in using firearms.

"What preliminary [information] we have is this was a disturbance which turned into a fight between two groups of people," the Indianapolis police captain, Don Weilhammer, told Fox59, adding that "at least one handgun was recovered on the scene of the Waffle House."

"Another gun was recovered from [a] car at a local hospital."

A Waffle House spokesperson said the restaurant chain was referring all questions about the shooting to local law enforcement, saying: "We are cooperating fully with the ongoing law enforcement investigation into this incident."

The shooting came just after at least two police officers and a paramedic were fatally shot after receiving reports of domestic abuse in Burnsville, Minnesota Sunday.

According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the shooter was also dead, without revealing his cause of death.

The slain officials were identified as Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, both 27-year-old and a firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth aged 40 years.
