In a shocking twist, the burglar who broke into the cottage of Charlotte Glazier and caused $5,000 worth of damage turned out to be a badger, The Telegraph reported.
Glazier, upon arriving at her cottage earlier this week, saw a hole in her back down. Upon entering, she noticed food littered across the kitchen floor, a damaged fireplace, and broken electrical wires.
She feared she’d been burgled when she returned home from London to her Grade II-listed cottage on the Isle of Wight.
After three panicked searches of her house with a neighbour, all became clear when she spotted the badger’s black and white fur in her bedroom bin.
Glazier said: “It’s like Goldilocks with the porridge oats on the floor and sleeping in someone’s room, living in the house for a few days.
“It was very perplexing when I arrived home. The first room was just trashed, and the kitchen looked like it had been raided.
“I thought it might have been vandalised or something, but then I saw a hole in the bottom of the door and thought it seemed like an animal.”
She called the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) and emergency veterinarians after finding the badger, and eventually, she was able to speak with Graham Lee of the Badger Trust Isle of Wight, who came out that evening.
Glazier has launched a fundraising page to cover the costs of the damage.
