Prince Harry may sabotage his ties with the royal family as a trade off for U.S. citizenship, just after the Duke released a statement about a family reunion.
The "Renunciation of Title or Order of Nobility" policy, as listed on the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website, may mandate that the Duke of Sussex no longer be referred to by his royal title.
“Any applicant who has any titles of heredity or positions of nobility in any foreign state must renounce the title or the position,” per the policy, stated the “Oath of Allegiance” to the United States.
“The applicant must expressly renounce the title in a public ceremony and USCIS must record the renunciation as part of the proceedings.”
As the USCIS notes, there may be a "lack of attachment" to the US Constitution if someone "fails to renounce the title of position."
Harry, 39, acknowledged he "has considered" obtaining American citizenship in an interview that aired on Good Morning America on Friday.
“The American citizenship is a thought that has crossed my mind but is certainly not something that is a high priority for me right now,” he added.
However, his plans for getting a U.S. citizenship may pose as an obstacle for his intentions of reunion with the royal family.
In a recent interview, the Prince broke his silence about his meeting with King Charles after learning about the cancer diagnosis and made an emotional pledge for "reunification."
"Look I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him I'm grateful for that," the Duke of Sussex said in his big statement.
Harry made this claim on the Good Morning America (GMA) show in an interview with Will Reeve.
When questioned about the potential "reunifying effect" of a family illness, Harry surprised the interviewer with his response, stating, "Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families, I see it on a day-to-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together."
It’s clear that Prince Harry will have to choose either reuniting with the royal family, or gain U.S. citizenship and giving up the royal titles. What the Duke of Sussex plans to choose, no one knows.
