Brian Wilson’s deteriorating health has taken a turn for the worse following the death of his wife.
The Beach Boys legend has reportedly agreed to come under the conservatorship of his family just two weeks after the passing of his wife Melinda.
In court documents obtained by People Magazine, the 88-year-old musician’s family expressed concern that “Mr. Wilson is unable to properly provide for his own personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter” amid his battle with a “major neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia).”
The Wilson family clarified in a statement made to the outlet that the procedure is “consistent with family processes put in place by Brian and Melinda” and that the musician can still "enjoy all of his family and friends and continue to work on current projects as well as participate in any activities he chooses.”
The conservators were named as longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers.
The filing noted that Melinda’s passing worsened Brian’s condition, as she “attended to Mr. Wilson’s daily living needs.”
Brian even called her his “savior” when he announced her death in late January.
Brian’s team requested the court to appoint a conservator, and declared that Brian would be unable to attend a court hearing as his condition rendered him “easily distracted“ and “disruptive.”
