Billy Joel refuses to tap pal Paul McCartney to join his 'supergroup', here's why
Billy Joel shared his idea of forming a super group with A-list musicians on The Howard Stern Show
Billy Joel shared his idea of forming a supergroup with A-list musicians on The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday, February 14.
However, Joel revealed that he wouldn’t directly extend his invitation to someone like McCartney since “He was in the super-est group of all-time. I don’t have the nerve to do that.”
Howard Stern pushed him, admitting that he would vouch for it any day. The singer went on to share his idea of choosing Ringo Starr, the Beatles band-mate as the group drummer, alongside Jeff Back and Jimmy Page.
This came after the host of the show asked Joel about his plans on forming a group with the following musicians, adding: “Wouldn’t it have been great if George Harrison and Tom Petty had asked you to be in The Travelling Wilburys?”
Billy noted that he had thought of “putting together” his own band, including “Me, Don Henley and Sting. And maybe John Mayer on guitar.”
The host quickly jumped back in the conversation, asking Joel about the band’s formation, to which he calmly responded, “Well, everybody’s busy.”
He further revealed that he would go for musicians that he’s apparently “good friends with,” like Sting and Paul McCartney.
The American singer is all set to spend time on the road with Sting this year as the latter is set to join Joel on a few shows on his North American tour in February, April, and September.
