Sofia Vergara had her reasons to end her journey with Joe Manganiello.
In a previous interview this month, Vergara, 51, answered a question about the cause behind her marriage's dissolution to the Spanish newspaper El País.
“Well, I’m newly divorced from my second husband, who I was with for 10 years. My marriage broke up because my husband was younger,” she revealed. “He wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”
Manganiello, 47, desired to have the parental experience, but Vergara stated she had no intention of having any more children. (The actress and her then-husband Joe Gonzalez welcomed their son Manolo in 1991; the couple separated two years later.)
“I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore,” she continued. “I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.”
Even though Vergara's second marriage ended, she expressed optimism for the future.
“If love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I’m almost in menopause, it’s the natural way of things,” she said.
“When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life. That’s what I have to do.”
Previously, Vergara and Manganiello had kept quiet about what led to their breakup. In July 2023, Us Weekly verified that Manganiello had submitted a divorce petition.
