Melania Trump the former US first lady, and wife of Donald Trump gave a eulogy at her mother’s funeral, BBC reported.

Amalija Knavs died at the age of 78 last week, as announced by Melania on her Instagram account.

Donald Trump stood beside his wife, skipping a court session in his defamation trial in New York after the judge refused to postpone the proceedings.

Melania in her eulogy said, "In her presence, the world seemed to shimmer with radiance and joy, our bond was unbreakable."

She remembered her mother as "a ray of light in the darkest of days."

        In 2018, Amalija Knavs and her husband, Viktor, obtained US citizenship after residing in the country under a green card granted by their daughter.

        They were able to benefit from what former president Donald Trump had called a "chain migration" that ought to be eliminated, the family reunification visa procedure.

        Before moving to the US, Amalija worked at a textile factory in the Slovenian town of Sevnica, while her husband Viktor was a car salesman.

        Melania Trump attended high school in the capital, Ljubljana, about an hour's drive away.

        She met Donald Trump in 1998 while working as a model. They had a son, Barron, together in 2006, the same year she became a US citizen.
