A wildlife photographer stumbled upon an unexpected mystery right in his own shed.
The tale began innocuously enough - disappearing nuts and items found in places they shouldn't be. But what followed surprised him even more.
The 75-year-old wildlife photographer, Rodney Holbrook, a resident of the quiet town of Powys, Wales, spoke to Sky News about his nightly visitor.
Holbrook revealed the peculiar events that led him to discover his nightly visitor, now affectionately named the "Welsh Tidy Mouse." Every night since early October, this diligent rodent has been sneaking into Holbrook's shed, leaving it tidier than he ever could have imagined.
At first, it was the missing nuts that puzzled Holbrook. "One morning I went in early October and there were no nuts in there and I thought I put nuts in yesterday," he recounted. But as days passed, it wasn't just the nuts that vanished as items from his bench began ending up neatly stashed away in a little box.
Determined to unravel this nocturnal enigma, Holbrook set up a night camera. What he captured was nothing short of extraordinary - the mouse, in meticulous detail, organising and tidying the shed.
The curious case of the "Welsh Tidy Mouse" took a surprising turn when Holbrook admitted that this diligent creature might not even be a resident of the shed. "I haven't found out how it's getting in, so I don't think it's actually living in there. It could be," he pondered.
While the mystery mouse seems to work solo most nights, occasionally, it's joined by companions. "It's only the one doing it, but I've had one video where I saw two on there, or three counting the one tidying up," Holbrook shared.
Interestingly, this little cleaner isn't just focused on tidying; it's also a bit of a hoarder. Holbrook suspects the mouse piles items on top of the hidden nuts, possibly to safeguard its stash from other mice or creatures looking for a snack.
Despite suggestions to orchestrate comedic setups, Holbrook prefers to let nature take its course. "I'm just leaving it as it is. Just naturally let whatever's going to happen happen," he concluded, embracing the nightly routine of his unexpected visitor.
