Deepika Padukone, who is quite vocal about her battle with depression, recently admitted that she is grateful for her journey as it made her a better person.
In conversation with Vogue Singapore, the Bollywood diva shared that her struggle with mental illness was the most painful thing she has ever gone through.
She added, "Every day, it takes work to make sure that I don’t have a relapse and slip into it again."
Deepika, who was diagnosed with depression in 2014, further said, "But maybe because I have healed... I learnt a lot from it and it gave me the ability to impact the lives of millions of other people. It allowed me to find my true calling."
The Pathaan actress expressed her immense gratitude to be surrounded by people, who didn’t fully understand mental health issues however they have been empathetic, supportive and patient towards her.
Deepika believes that "mental health issues still don’t get the same sort of understanding as physical ailments do."
The internationally renowned actress added, "Human nature is such that you react only to things that you see. This just means that all of us in the mental health space have to work that much harder for it be seen."
On the work front, Deepika will be next seen in Rohit Shetty's star-studded movie, Singham Again.
Moreover, the actress is all set to make her first on-screen appearance with Hrithik Roshan in their highly awaited action thriller film, Fighter.
