The SR-72 aircraft, also known as the "Son of Blackbird," is a component of the US Air Force's top-secret goal to advance aviation technology and take control of the sky and is scheduled for its first flight in 2025 to reach astounding speeds of more than 4,000mph.

Considered to be a near-perfect plane, the SR-72 is designed to be an extremely fast, hypersonic, high-altitude surveillance aircraft.

It is said to be able to fire projectiles, including hypersonic weapons, more quickly than anything that has come before it.

More significantly, though, is that it will be able to maintain these speeds for extended periods of time.

Though the plane's ambitions aren't officially related to the Pentagon just yet, it's believed that they are closely monitoring Lockheed Martin's cutting-edge aircraft.

The SR-72 is another example of Lockheed Martin's legendary, audacious aircraft development.

This hypersonic demonstrator aircraft, which is a component of their Advanced Development Programmes, popularly known as "Skunk Works," is scheduled to make its airborne debut in the middle of the 2020s.

According to reports, the plane's design eliminates the need for a human in the cockpit, which might revolutionise how the military operates its planes.

There isn't anything that can compare to Mach 6, which was the fastest aeroplane in history before spaceships.

Mach 6 is capable of reaching nearly 4,100mph, and the SR-72 is purportedly aiming for speeds in the vicinity of that figure.
