Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon suffered multiple injuries after being bitten by a dog following a Christmas Day win against the Charlotte Hornets and will be temporarily out of the team, The Athletic reported.
However, Gordon is "in good condition" and will be away from the team while recovering, the Nuggets said Wednesday but they provided no timetable for his return, according to a statement by the Nuggets.
"Aaron Gordon suffered lacerations to his face and hand resulting from a dog bite on December 25th. Aaron is in good condition and will remain away from the team while he recovers. Additional updates will be provided as necessary," the Nuggets wrote.
Meanwhile, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone met with the media and shared some thoughts on the incident and it sounds like they won't be rushing Gordon back.
The breed or owner of the dog that bit Gordon is unknown.
Gordon has participated in 28 games for Denver this season, scoring 13.6 points, pulling down 6.9 rebounds, and dishing out 3.4 assists per game.
He’s part of the Nuggets championship starting five from a season ago, which also includes Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, according to Denver Sports.
Previously, Gordon missed four games in late November and early December with a heel strain.
The 28-year-old basketball pro played through the heel pain, and when he returned on December 2 against the Sacramento Kings. After the game, he said that walking felt like "stepping on a stone."
The Nuggets are 22-10 and sit second in the Western Conference, which is one of two conferences that make up the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The team enjoyed their day off on Tuesday and held practice on Wednesday at Ball Arena, home to the Denver Nuggets in Denver, Colorado ahead of Thursday's home game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
