MELBOURNE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday said that spinner Noman Ali will not be playing in the ongoing Test series against Australia after he underwent surgery.

According to the details, Noman Ali reported experiencing abrupt and intense stomach pain on December 22. As a result, he underwent emergency tests and scans, which verified the diagnosis of appendicitis.

The PCB reported that he had a laparoscopic appendectomy Saturday morning at the surgeon's recommendation.

The cricketer is stable and doing fine post-surgery. He will be discharged later this afternoon.

Noman Ali is the second Pakistani bowler to have been ruled out of the Test series in Australia on fitness grounds after Khurram Shahzad.

Pakistan pacer Khurram Shazad is feared to miss this entire cricket season because of an abdominal muscle tear and a stress fracture in his left 10th rib that he suffered during the Perth Test, The News reported Friday, citing the player's medical reports.

According to the publication, he will be lucky if he can get well enough to be considered for selection for the T20 World Cup in June 2024.

Pakistan will play the second Test in Melbourne from Dec 26 after losing the opening game of the three-match series.
