Elon Musk's humanoid robot Optimus, has experienced a dramatic transformation, eschewing its clumsy early prototype shape in favour of a sleek and nimble version on Wednesday.

The recently released Optimus Gen 2 is a step ahead in terms of both capability and sophistication, suggesting that robots may one day leave the manufacturing floor and become part of our everyday lives.

A new video featuring the most recent iteration of Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus, was shared on Twitter by Elon Musk. According to the video, Optimus - Gen 2 has had a number of noteworthy improvements since its May 2018 unveiling.

The awkward, industrial characteristics of previous incarnations are no longer present. The Optimus Gen 2 has a more streamlined build, is 22 pounds lighter, and has feet that are more articulated than those of a human. Not only does this sleeker design look better, but it also increases walking speed by 30%, which is a significant improvement over the clumsy steps of its predecessor.

There's also a funny part in the film where Optimus imitates Musk's dance moves, which he frequently showcases at Tesla launch parties. Although the robot's movements are still rigid, with more work, they may become more fluid.

Musk stated when he initially unveiled Optimus in 2021 that it was intended to "eliminate dangerous, repetitive, boring tasks." Tesla debuted the Optimus prototype in September 2022, and then in May 2023, the company unveiled a significant update.

The updated video shows how Optimus can now move more fluidly and naturally and has improved balance and body control.
