Damar Hamlin's near-death encounter on the field during a January NFL game - and his acclaimed resurrection - sent the talent to the top of searches for persons overall, while Jeremy Renner's sad snowplough accident earlier in the year boosted searches for the Hawkeye standout throughout 2023.
In the sphere of entertainment, Barbie led this year's Google search movie trends, followed by Oppenheimer and Indian movie Jawan. In television, The Last of Us and Wednesday rose as searches for actors Pedro Pascal and Jenna Ortega skyrocketed.
Shakira, who is mired in a tax dispute, has also been crowned the year's most searched singer, following her Gerard Pique diss track in January and ensuing tax problems.
Then, after signing Lionel Messi from Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Miami became the most searched sports team, and - sure - the Korean rice meal bibimbap dominated searches for recipes.
The year has been plagued by sorrow, with global attention and outpourings of sadness following the untimely deaths of Matthew Perry and Tina Turner. Jerry Springer, Steve Harwell of Smash Mouth, and Sinead O'Connor were all mourned fondly by admirers throughout the world when word of their deaths spread.
