Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta posted on Instagram on Friday that he had undergone replacement surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament during a mixed martial arts match.

This setback came in the way of his intention to compete in a mixed martial arts match early in the next year.

“Tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it,” the Facebook co-founder, 39, shared via Instagram on Friday.

Zuckerberg posted multiple pictures of himself in a hospital bed, looking healthy following surgery, on his social media carousel.

“Grateful for the doctors and team taking care of me. I was training for a competitive MMA fight early next year, but now that's delayed a bit,” he added.

Zuckerberg was seen in the pictures lying down with a cast and bandages on his left leg. In an indication that his torn ACL didn't defeat him, he raised his left hand. In the upload, his spouse Priscilla Chan could also be seen cleaning his forehead and assisting him in putting on shoes.

Zuckerberg added, “Still looking forward to doing it after I recover. Thanks to everyone for the love and support.”

“Competed in my first jiu-jitsu tournament and won some medals for the Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu team,” he said in a May 6 Instagram post. Photos showed Zuckerberg lifting his arm in victory after wrestling with opponents.

He gained popularity the following month after Tesla CEO Elon Musk appeared to challenge him to a "cage match."

Following online debate on their rival apps, the billionaires traded back and forth on social media.

A user intervened to tell Musk, 52, that Zuckerberg "does the jujitsu now" after Musk made a jab at the latter.

“I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” the X owner responded during the June 20 conversation.

When Zuckerberg heard about it, he shared a screenshot of the conversation on Instagram Stories along with the caption, "Send me location," written in large letters.

Many questioned the seriousness of the two Internet entrepreneurs.

A Meta representative claimed in a statement to People that "the story speaks for itself."

A few days later, UFC President Dana White talked about the potential for a direct confrontation between Musk and Zuckerberg.

"I was talking to Elon and Mark last night, both guys are absolutely dead serious about this," White told TMZ in a June 22 interview.

"Because they both said, 'Yeah we'll do it.' They both want to do it. Mark Zuckerberg hit me up first and said, 'Is he serious?' I said, 'I don't know, let me ask [Musk].' I asked him and he said, 'Yeah, I'm dead serious,' " White continued.

In August, Zuckerberg claimed in a Threads post that Musk would not confirm a date. "If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me,"

He wrote, "Otherwise, time to move on. I'm going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."
