    Israel carries out strikes on homes in north Gaza as it extends onslaught

    The Israeli military bombed at least five crowded homes in northern Gaza early on Thursday with many casualties, health officials said, as troops deepened an incursion along the territory's northern edge.

    Rescue operations were under way as many people remained missing or trapped under the rubble, medics said. Hamas media put the number of fatalities at 57 but there was no official figure immediately from the Gaza health ministry.

    Hezbollah claims attacks on Israeli troops

    US Senate rejects move to block arms sales to Israel

    The US Senate on Wednesday blocked legislation that would have halted the sale of some weapons to Israel, which had been introduced out of concern about the human rights catastrophe faced by Palestinians in Gaza.

    Turkey slams Houthi strike on its Panama-flagged cargo ship

    Hamas says US 'directly responsible' for Gaza war after UN veto

    Palestinian group Hamas accused the United States on Wednesday of being "directly responsible" for Israel's "genocidal war" in Gaza after it vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire.

    "Again, the United States demonstrates that it is a direct partner in the aggression against our people, that it is a criminal, kills children and women and destroys civilian life in Gaza, and that it is directly responsible for the genocidal war and ethnic cleansing, just like the occupation (Israel)," Hamas said in a statement.

    Israeli attacks have killed at least 3,558 people and wounded 15,123 in Lebanon since October 2023, with 14 fatalities reported on Tuesday, the Lebanese health ministry said on Wednesday.

    Syria says 36 killed in Israeli strikes on Palmyra

    The Syrian defence ministry said 36 people were killed and more than 50 wounded Wednesday in Israeli air strikes on the oasis city of Palmyra, renowned for its ancient ruins.

    "The Israeli enemy launched an air attack from the direction of the Al-Tanf area, targeting a number of buildings in the city of Palmyra," a ministry statement said.

    The attack "killed 36 people and wounded more than 50", as well as causing "significant material damage," it added.
