Nightlife expert Akiva received the "Angel of Light Award" from Robin Thicke.
Akiva characterized the occasion as "a little bittersweet" because of the Israeli-Gaza war and the retaliation attack by Hamas.
“With all the turmoil going on in the world today, and I’ve been so immersed in the last two weeks with that’s going on… It’s really taken a lot from me… It’s a little bittersweet,” he said.
The event, which honored Elizabeth Elting and CEO and founder of Mielle Organics Monique Rodriguez, was held at Tamron Hall.
In order to benefit the Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research, the gala raised more than $2.8 million.
Performers included Mary J. Blige, Miri Ben Ari, Thicke, and Chloe Jane. For the star-studded and powerful audience that included Clive Davis, Michael Bolton, Nikki Haskell, Tina Knowles, Nina Cooper, Simone Smith, Lorraine Schwartz, Tommy Hilfiger, Ubah Hassan, Luann de Lesseps, Candace Buschnell, Star Jones, artist Ralph Nauta, Aoki Simmons, Monte and Angelina Lipman, Jermaine Dupri closed out the evening with his signature style of spinning.
