Meghan Markle was in for a rude awakening after her marriage to Prince Harry, given she had a very different image of the royal family painted in her mind.
Late Queen Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Lady Glenconner got candid about her impression of the Duchess of Sussex while speaking on the Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth podcast, via Express UK.
“I think the thing about Meghan was, she had no idea what was really expected of her really,” she told the host. “I think she just thought it was sort of like being another actress, you know. Riding around in a golden coach and everything like that.”
Lady Glenconner, who was also lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret, explained, “And actually, being a member of the Royal Family – a lot of it is extremely boring.”
Moreover, she also shed light on what the American politician John Kerry thought of the couple when she spoke to him during King Charles’ Coronation in May.
“He said, ‘We all feel very very sorry for Harry. I think I can just leave it at that,’” she revealed.
There is speculation that Prince Harry plans on returning to the UK, three years after his exit from the royal family with Meghan.
However, Meghan is not willing to make the move which is why there appears to be strain between the couple, per an insider cited by OK! Magazine. “There is a divide between the couple on this issue but they will soon start looking for a property of their own near London, and Harry is very much leading this.”
Meanwhile, royal expert Matt Wilkinson commented on the move that while he “can see it happening” but cannot see in a million years, Meghan spending much time over here again.
He added, “I cannot see Meghan Markle coming back. I don’t think she feels welcome. I don’t think she is welcome. The family won’t make her welcome. And I don’t think the public will either.”
