Bill Hader forced to wear 'bigger clothes' amid weight gain while filming Barry
Bill Hader opened up about the many lessons he learned while filming the season finale of Barry
Juggling multiple roles while filming the season finale of HBO’s Barry had Bill Hader come to some challenging realizations.
Hader, who served as a writer, director, and actor in season 4 of the series, revealed he gained 25 lbs while filming.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he shared, "To know that I’ve grown as a filmmaker is really rewarding.
"But I also know that I’m 45 and I put on weight way faster than I used to. That’s what I really learned, that I’m suddenly 25 pounds overweight. How the hell’d that happen?" the actor continued, adding that he realized he could not eat junk food "the way I used to."
The Saturday Night Live alum recalled a costume designer pointing out the weight gain in the most polite way he could. "I think it was toward the end of the season that the costume designer was like, 'I think you need to wear bigger clothes. You’re wearing a large, and, well...' " Hader recalled with a laugh. "We’ve got to go up a size, or three. Great!"
Hader opened up about the weight gain in an interview with Access Hollywood in April, revealing he was "stress eating" during production.
"I don't train at all. I eat a lot of doughnuts and stress," he told the outlet when asked about his training for Barry’s action scenes. "I put on... between episodes three and four... I put on 25 lbs. from sheer stress eating."
The actor explained: "None of that is for the character. That is purely a guy during all the episodes and writing everything, and just stress eating like crazy. I'm in the process of trying to lose it."
