Rob Lowe has recently opened up on why he quit The West Wing show.
Lowe, who played the role of deputy White House Communications Director on NBC drama, left the show in its fourth season, and now in a new interview with the Podcrushed podcast, he spilled the tea about his exit from the show.
Calling his relation with The West Wing “super unhealthy”, Lowe said, “The best thing I ever did.”
“I felt very undervalued. I did not have a good experience,” remarked the 59-year-old.
Reflecting on his experience on the show, Lowe explained, “Whenever I talk to actors who complain about, you know, their relationships on their shows, it happens — it happens in any workplace. You could be in an environment where people sandbag you, want to see you fail, don’t appreciate you, whatever it is.”
The Outsiders star likened his time on show to that of the “abusive relationships” he saw his children go through when they reached a certain age.
“I could see them having first girlfriends and being in a relationship that was abusive and taking it. She’s the popular girl, everybody likes her, she’s beautiful, it must be great.”
Lowe pointed out that all “the things that people would say about making The West Wing to me. ‘It’s so popular, it’s so amazing, it must be amazing”.
“But I know what it’s like, and if I couldn’t walk away from it, then how could I empower my kids to walk away from it?” stated the Unstable actor.
Lowe asserted, “I walked away from the most popular girl at school, but I also knew that it was a super unhealthy relationship, and it was the best thing I ever did.”
However, Lowe did return to the series for the finale and couple of episodes at the end of its run.
Meanwhile, Lowe character was replaced on the show by Will Bailey, a character played by Joshua Malina.
