Kevin Costner has responded to allegations made by his former partner, Christine Baumgartner, stating that he did not abruptly cancel her credit cards following her filing for divorce.
In a recent legal declaration, the renowned actor explained that he had to impose limits on Baumgartner's spending after discovering significant expenses incurred through credit cards he was responsible for.
According to Costner, Baumgartner had accumulated a six-figure sum in charges for legal and accounting services without his knowledge or consent.
In a declaration obtained by Insider, Costner stated, "Christine says I have not maintained the status quo because I cancelled one of her credit cards and because I put (a large) limit on the use of the credit card she uses. I agreed to maintain the status quo with respect to our children. I have done so. I have continued to pay for all of the children's expenses since Christine filed for divorce. Christine does not claim that the children's expenses have not been paid."
Last month, Costner offered to contribute $65,000 towards Baumgartner's legal fees, but her legal team failed to respond to the offer. Consequently, Costner felt compelled to take action and restrict her access to his credit cards.
In his declaration, he revealed that Baumgartner had utilized the cards to pay $45,000 to a Los Angeles-based lawyer, in addition to the $40,000 spent on her legal team in Santa Barbara. Furthermore, she had incurred charges of $10,000 for the services of a forensic accountant and an additional $10,000 for another forensic accountant whom she no longer intends to utilize, as per Costner's claims.
Costner stated in the court documents, "It was then that I made the decision that there needed to be some reasonable limitation on the use of the credit cards. My lawyer gave her lawyers written notice."
The ongoing divorce proceedings between Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner continue to unfold with both parties presenting their perspectives on the matter.
