Australia's Nathan Lyon forced to withdraw from Ashes due to calf injury

Australia has been dealt a significant blow in the ongoing Ashes series against England as off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a calf injury he sustained during the second Test at Lord's. 

The 35-year-old, who boasts an impressive record of 496 Test wickets, suffered the injury on the second day of the match, prompting his exclusion from Australia's squad for the remaining three Tests. The team confirmed that Lyon has a "significant calf tear," a setback that will require him to focus on recovery and rehabilitation.

Australia currently holds a commanding 2-0 lead in the Ashes series, having secured victories by 43 runs at Lord's and by two wickets in the first Test at Edgbaston. Lyon's absence will be keenly felt, as he has been a key contributor to Australia's success with his spin bowling skills and experience. 

To fill the void left by Lyon, the team is considering the inclusion of spinner Todd Murphy for the upcoming third Test at Headingley, scheduled to start on Thursday. Although Murphy has limited first-class experience, he impressed during Australia's tour of India earlier this year, capturing 14 wickets. The coaching staff has expressed confidence in Murphy's ability to step up and perform at the international level.

During the Ashes series, Lyon played a pivotal role in Australia's triumph at Edgbaston, where he claimed eight wickets.
