James Mangold had some big plans for his Boba Fett movie, but the project did not see daylight after Solo: A Star Wars Story's poor performance.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director opened up about his vision for the film.
"At the point I was doing it, I was probably scaring the *** out of everyone, but I was probably making much more of a borderline R-rated, single-planet spaghetti Western."
The Indiana Jones filmmaker continued, "The world would never be able to embrace Baby Yoda if I had made that. He didn't really belong in the world I was envisioning. In a moment of corporate realignment after whatever happened with the Han Solo movie, they just suddenly decided they weren't making pictures like that. I think the opportunities -- streaming -- presented themselves."
Mangold added, "It was a beautiful period, I was just listening to Ennio Morricone all day, all night, and typing away. I'm not sure it ever would have happened. I'm not sure it was in anyone's plans, what was I thinking about."
