The San Bernardino County Sheriff's department released a statement from the Sands family on Wednesday, five months after the 65-year-old A Room with a View actor disappeared while hiking Mount Baldy in Southern California in January.
"We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian," they said.
"We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer."
The sheriff's office tweeted, "Although missing hiker, Julian Sands, was not located during the recent search mission, the case remains active. We want to thank all the individuals who assisted in the June 17 search and the previous search missions."
The search for the missing actor has been hampered by severe weather conditions in the region since he disappeared.
In a recent statement, the sheriff's department revealed that more than 80 Search and Rescue volunteers, deputies, and staff, along with two helicopters and drone crews, were involved in a ground search in the Mount Baldy area.
The statement continued, "Aviation resources inserted search teams into remote areas across Mount Baldy and conducted aerial search and assessments efforts. Additionally, drone crews searched areas inaccessible to ground crews."
"Additionally, eight unrelated search and rescue operations have been conducted in the Mount Baldy area," they concluded.
