A.A. Associates clarification

The A.A. Associates has denied association with the design or construction of the Northern Bypass. Civil Engineer, Aleem Khan told The News on Sunday that the firm does not have any kind of link with the bypass. It may be mentioned here that the Federal Minister for Communications, Shamim Siddiqi, in a press conference on Saturday, has said that A.A. Associates were one of the consultants of the Northern Bypass.



Two aides to Arshad Papu killed

Two aides to Arshad Papu were killed by the men of Rehman Dakait gang in the Pak Colony police limits on Sunday. Police said that Saeed alias Babul and Abdul Jabbar, aides of Arshad Papu were killed by the aides of Rehman Dakait in Lashari Mohallah, in the Pak Colony area. A case was reported in the police station concerned. Meanwhile, Arshad, 21, a resident of Mianwali Colony drowned in a pound near his house in the Manghopir police limits. The persons present there informed the police which reached the spot. The body could not be retrieved till our filing of this report.



Test for school teachers held

The Provincial Education Department on Sunday conducted written test for school teachers in the basic pay scale of 7 to 15. The written test against the vacant posts of 2,000 Junior School Teachers was held at Cadet College, Pakistan Steel Mill, in which 1,800 candidates appeared. Out of 2,023 enrolled candidates, 423 candidates were not issued admit cards and those who were issued admit cards also faced hardships, as most of the candidates having had their cards bearing no official stamps and signatures.



394 get ownership rights

Federal Housing Minister Iqbal Muhammad Ali distributed certificates of ownership among 394 residents of Pakistan Quarters. Earlier, in the first phase of the scheme, out of 2,800 government quarters, the eligibility certificates were distributed among 1,736 residents of Jehangir Road, Patel Para, Martin Road, Teen Hatti and Liaquatabad. Iqbal said that the government was committed to providing facilities to the people and a number of initiatives have been taken for solving housing problems.



Constable shot dead

Peerzada, 25, a police constable was shot at by his relative over a domestic dispute in the Moachko police limits. The police said that the victim was the resident of Ittehad Town and was posted at the Baldia Town police station.





Fool-proof steps to control price hike

The Orangi Town administration on Friday decided to take fool-proof steps to the control price hike during month of Ramadan and conduct the cleaning of all markets. This decision was taken at a meeting by the town nazim. He asked the Town Municipal Officer (TMO) to set up joint camps at each market comprising representatives of the town and the city government, which will ensure the sale of eatables on prices fixed by the city government. They will also take action on complaints against an increase in prices. Punishment and fine will also be imposed against possible violators/profiteers with the consultation of a magistrate to be appointed by the city government.



‘Govt combating narcotics’

The Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation (E&T) Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani has said that the rising trend of narcotics consumption was dragging the young generation towards disaster and the government had taken effective steps to combat this menace. He said this while addressing the opening ceremony of a stage drama “A step against Narcotics” organised by Omer Sharif Welfare Trust in collaboration with Social Welfare Department Sindh, at the Navy Auditorium.



PR passengers annoyed

A large number of passengers who were to board Allama Iqbal Express for Sialkot faced extreme hardships due to a fault that developed in the locomotive of the said express. Passengers complained that they waited for as many as six hours before the train left the Cantonment Railway Station on Sunday. One of the passengers said that the train was scheduled to depart at 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon but due to a maintenance fault in the locomotive of the train, it departed after 7:00 p.m. “Why does not the Pakistan Railway have more locomotives or why do not they care for their maintenance” he questioned angrily. “It has become a regular feature that the trains get late for hours while PR has done nothing to improve the situation,” he added.



The News staffer grieved

Mohiuddin (Alig), father of Fasahat Mohiuddin, the staff reporter of The News, passed away on Sunday after a protracted illness. He was 85. He leaves behind a widow, two sons and a daughter. His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Bilal Mosque after Maghrib prayers and was laid to rest at Paposh Nagar Graveyard. His Soyem will be held on Tuesday, September 4, at Bilal Mosque, Gol Market, Nazimabad No 3. Separate arrangements have been made for ladies at House No 3F/12/6, Nazimabad No 2 near Shamim Shahid police kiosk, between Zohar and Maghrib prayers. The staff members of The News express their deep sorrow and grief with the staff reporter and his family over the sad demise.



Diversion at FTC

DIG Traffic Wajid Ali Khan Durrani has notified a diversion route as the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KW&SB) has dug up the road in front of the FTC for carrying out construction work. When contacted regarding the diversion, DIG traffic stated that commuters coming from Airport and travelling towards Defence should use the Baloch Colony Bridge which will lead to the expressway and Bypass of Jam Sadiq Bridge. As per reports, the KW&SB was scheduled to complete the task on September 2 (Sunday) but they had extended the period for another day.
