Mahmoud Haroon passes away

KARACHI: Veteran politician, former Sindh governor and chairman of the Dawn Media Group Mahmoud A Haroon passed away after a prolonged illness at his Clifton residence on Thursday afternoon. He will be laid to rest at the Gizri graveyard on Friday morning, family sources said. Haroon, 88, is survived by a daughter. He was discharged from the Aga Khan Hospital on Thursday morning and moved to his residence in the Clifton area. Mahmoud Haroon remained the Sindh governor from August 6, 1990 to July 18, 1993 and then again from January 23, 1994 to May 22, 1995. He served as the interior minister of Pakistan during the Gen Zia era. His funeral prayers will be held at 10 am at Haroon Villa near the old Mideast Hospital.
