Amir Liaquat resigns as minister; quits assembly

RAWALPINDI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MNA and Minister of State for Religious Affairs Dr Amir Liaquat has resigned, both from the ministry and the National Assembly “due to personal reasons”.

“I have given resignation on personal reasons and don’t link my resignation with present ongoing religious crises in the country,” he told reporters at the Islamabad airport on Wednesday.

He said he has tendered his resignations to the prime minister.Moreover, he said he would soon appear on a religious TV channel, which would be launched in the near future. Later, he left for Karachi along with his wife.

Our Karachi correspondent adds: The MQM Rabita committee said in a press release that the reasons for the resignation of Amir Liaquat were purely personal on account of which he was not able to devote due time to the affairs of his constituency.
