ISLAMABAD: Cracks started to appear in the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) with the beginning of the first session of the last parliamentary year of the National Assembly here on Tuesday.
Legislators of the Jamaat-i-Islami boycotted the session but its coalition partner Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) attended the session. After offering Fateha for the departed soul of Maulana Syed Naseeb Ali Shah, MNA, who died last month, the brief first day session of the National Assembly was adjourned by Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain till Wednesday (today).
Announcing boycott of the National Assembly session on Monday, MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed asked other legislators of the alliance to follow suit, but, the JUI-F ignored the appeal of the coalition president.
Earlier, the House expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of Maulana Naseeb and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant solace to the members of the bereaved family to bear the great loss with fortitude.
Earlier, speaking on a point of order, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi said the session should be adjourned due to the death of Maulana Naseeb Ali Shah. Expressing grief over the death, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of MMA said Maulana Naseeb was a great religious leader.
