LAHORE: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday stressed upon the masses to support President General Pervez Musharraf for his initiative to solve problems of the Muslim Ummah and efforts for the safety of the country.
Addressing a public gathering at Sabzazar, he said, “Pakistan is a citadel of Islam and General Pervez Musharraf has truly represented it. Musharraf is making efforts to unite the Ummah at one platform.”
He said, “It is our moral duty that we should support a man who is sincerely making efforts for the safety and development of the country. Not only for another term, we will elect him president in uniform for 10 times for the country’s safety and solidarity.”
He said free education from primary to matric level was being provided in the Punjab. “Similarly, free medicine is available at Basic Health Units (BHUs) and the credit goes to General Musharraf for providing huge development funds to the provincial governments,” he observed.
He said, “Pakistan earned am important position among the international community due to the successful policies of President General Musharraf. The international community gives due importance to Pakistan on important issues.”
Pervaiz Elahi said the previous government had done nothing for the development of the provincial metropolis, though PMs and CMs belonged to Lahore. “The previous rulers obtained loans for the construction of four roads in the Gulberg area while the present government is still paying back,” he added.
He said the PML-N leadership had lost its identity after joining hands with the PPP. He said the PML and the PPP were two opposite ideologies which could not unite. “The PPP divided the country and looted national wealth while the PML-N leadership made the country a begging state,” he charged.
He said the ruling party was the real Muslim League and stressed upon the ideological Muslim Leaguers to join the ruling
League. He also announced Rs 365 million development funds for construction of roads, school, colleges, water supply and sewerage in the Sabzazar scheme and its suburban areas.
An amount of Rs 140 million will be spent on the construction of the Sabzazar Main Boulevard from Multan Road to the Liaqat Chowk, which would be linked to the motorway bypass. Some Rs 5 million was reserved for gas and Rs 10 million for bricklaying of the Katcha Bund Road areas, Rs 60 million for the construction of sewerage from Kharak to the Grid Station, Rs 250 million for tube-wells, Rs 400 million for sewerage and disposal station, Rs 6 million for tube-wells in Shah Farid Park, Rs 7 million for tube-wells and sewerage in Jhugian Nagran and Rs 12.4 million for tube-wells and water supply pipelines in Kharak.
He announced construction of a government boys college in Sabzazar and government girls schools in UC-84 and P-Block, Sabzazar. He also announced upgrading Government Girls Primary School, Dholanaall, to middle level.
He also distributed proprietary rights certificates among the residents of the Qaziabad Katchi Abadi. He said the problems being faced by the dwellers of other Katchi Abadis would also be solved.
He said the Bakar Mandi would be shifted to another area within two months. He said shifting of the slaughterhouse to other place would complete in phases. “The provincial government will bear the expenses of construction of the new Bakar Mandi and slaughterhouse,” he maintained.
PML-Q Lahore President Mian Munir said party tickets for the elections had not been decided yet. Earlier, PML-Q PP-149 and PP-150 Presidents Irshad Dogar and Habibullah Bhatti respectively, in their addresses, said the past governments had ignored the area.
