Enver Baig appointed BISP chairman

ISLAMABAD: Former senator Enver Baig has been appointed as new chairman of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and he would assume the charge today (Friday).According to a notification, President Mamnoon Hussain, as chief patron of the BISP, on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has appointed Enver Baig as the new BISP chairman. Baig’s PPP membership was suspended after he met the PML-N President Nawaz Sharif.
Enver Baig announced to join the PML-N at a press conference in the presence of Nawaz Sharif in April, 2012. He remained a member of the Upper House of the Parliament on the ticket of PPP from 2003 to 2009.
Talking to The News, Enver Baig said along with taking up other welfare projects, he would also focus on developing skills of the youth by training them so that they could stand on their feet. “I will also talk to chambers of commerce and industry to explore opportunities for this purpose,” he said. He added that he would come up to the expectations of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and would ensure transparency in the BISP affairs.
