ECP reinstates membership of 20 MPs

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday issued a notification to restore the membership of 20 parliamentarians after they submitted the details of their and their family members’ assets and liabilities.
In the receipt of the statement after lapse of almost 25 days, the commission notified that sub-section 1 of Section 42A of the Representation of the People Act, 1976 provides that every member shall submit a statement of assets and liabilities of his own, that of his spouse, dependents, annually to the commission by the 30th day of September each year.
Therefore, the members who had failed to comply with the relevant law up to October 15, 2013 were ordered to have ceased to function as member of respective Houses in terms of sub-section (3) of section 42A of the Representation of the Peoples Act and section 25 A of the Senate Election Laws.
Whereas these members have now filed the statement of assets and liabilities and fulfilled the legal requirement, therefore, in pursuance of the aforesaid provisions of the law and in exercise of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Election Commission is pleased to restore, subject to all just exceptions, the membership of these members.
Consequently, the Commission’s notification of October 22 stands modified to this extent accordingly, the statement said.The members whose membership has been restored include Senator Faisal Raza Abidi and MNAs Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju (NA-155 Lodhran-II), Shah Jehan Baloch (NA-248 Karachi-X) and Alizeh Iqbal Haider, a female member elected against seat reserved for women.
The members belonging to provincial assemblies include Masood Shafqat (PP-189 Okara-V), Ali Abbas (PP-192 Okara-VIII), Waheed Asghar Dogar (PP-224 Sahiwal-V), and Abdul Majeed Khan Niazi (PP-262 Layyah-I) from Punjab Assembly; Muhammad Ali Bhutto (PS-37 Larkana-III), Bashir Ahmed Halepoto (PS-55 Badin-cum-T.M.Khan(I)
(Old Badin-I), Jameel Ahmed Bhurgari (PS-67

Mirpurkhas-cum-Umerkot –Old Mirpurkhas-IV), Sania (PS-109 Karachi-XXI) and Mukesh Kumar Chawla, a member elected on seat reserved for non-Muslims from Sindh Assembly; Muhammad Arif (PK-22 Charsadda-VI), Muhammad Khan Bahadur (PK-23 Mardan-I), Muhammad Zahid Durrani (PK-24 Mardan-II), Iftikhar Ali Mashwani (PK-26 Mardan-IV), Ziaullah Khan Bangash (PK-38 Kohat-II), Sardar Zahoor Ahmed (PK-53 Mansehra-I) from KPK Assembly; and Dr Shama Ishaq Baloch, a member elected against seat reserved for women from Balochistan Assembly.
